The first Samsung Wave was a huge success not because of Samsung’s homegrown mobile OS named Bada but it’s more because of its Super AMOLED screen and sub-Php20k price tag which was affordable for a smartphone at that time.
Now comes the second Wave (pun intended). The Samsung Wave 525 is marketed to bring the Bada OS to the mass with its cheap price tag of Php8,990. It’s a really affordable price to pay to have the smartphone experience in your hands albeit with a fairly new mobile OS.
With the cheap price comes some tradeoff. Gone is the Super AMOLED of the first Wave. It is now replaced with a WQVGA display which is a big drop of display quality from the Super AMOLED’s crisp and vibrant colors. No more 3G as well. It also received a camera downgrade from 5 megapixel to 3 megapixel.
The Wave 525 comes with Samsung’s Social Hub that integrates all of your contact details, social networks and e-mail services into your phonebook. There’s also the access to Samsung mobile apps and Bada applications which are still not a lot.
I don’t know how many Bada fans are out there but with the Php8,990 SRP of the new Samsung Wave 525, it may get the exposure Bada app developer sorely needs.
