It was in 2014 when Motorola Mobility was acquired from Google Inc by Lenovo, a Chinese multinational technology company. Lenovo promised to uphold the Motorola brand in the competitive smartphone market aiming to provide affordable quality devices at the same time carrying the famous name and bolster Lenovo’s presence in the mobile world. It looks like it has changed now, as confirmed by Lenovo executives at CES 2016, they will phase out the Motorola brand for good. The Motorola phone business will now operate under the Lenovo name, it is said to carry the “Moto by Lenovo” brand for its high end phones while budget and entry level devices will be under the Vibe brand. The Motorola “batwing” logo will still be used on future handsets.
Motorola has always been one of the most loved smartphone brands, notable for creating the iconic Motorola Razr line in the early 2000s, the best-selling clamshell phone in the world to date.
