At the Mobile World Congress today, Asus just released the Asus Zenfone 5 2018, which sports a very… familiar notch.
Prior to the launch, the company hosted a media briefing justifying its alleged similarity to the iPhone X. Global head of marketing Marcel Campos explains the phone reflects only what “what users want.”
Campos also adds how all vendors need to “follow the trends,” which means the infamous notch will make its way to more devices soon.
The Zenfone 5 lineup consists of the 6.2-inch model, the flagship Zenfone 5Z, and the Lite model, branded 5Q in the US.

With a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, the 6.2-inch Zenfone 5 keeps the same footprint as the 5.5 inch Zenfone 4. Much like the iPhone X, Asus also implemented auto temperature adjustments for the display. In addition, the company also included a sensor keeping the screen on while the user’s eyes are looking at it.
Similar to the Galaxy S8 and S9 Plus models, the Zenfone 5 comes with a 19:9 display ratio. Instead of OLED, however, the company used LCD for its display. Nonetheless, its 2246 x 1080 display looks sophisticated enough.
