We’ve talked about the new Sony Xperia phones already, including their pricing and availability. You might want to check that post first. And we already reviewed their flagship phone, the Sony Xperia S. After a lot of waiting, Sony Mobile PH just officially launched their new Xperia line of smartphones.
At the Mind Museum in Taguig, we saw the new Xperia phones sans the Xperia Sola who was missing in action. We finally got to take a look at them side by side (although the U and the P still has the Sony Ericsson brand) to show you their sizes in relation to each other.
The Xperia U which is the entry-level Xperia looks like the Xperia Ray but with a wider body. It only has a 5-megapixel camera but it has the same sensor and image software as that of the Xperia S and P. This is the only Xperia phone right now that has interchangeable colored caps and a transparent strip that changes color depending on what you’re viewing. The strip on the others only glows white.
We also got to see the Xperia P and its dock which you could attach to a TV via HDMI and you’ll get an instant portable media player without having to worry about your phone’s battery. The Xperia P features a WhiteMagic display for truer white and superb brightness that helps you view the display even under direct sunlight. If conventional displays have R,G and B colors. WhiteMagic has an additional white color as part of its pixel to achieve its brightness and also conserves battery life.
Then there’s also the Xperia SmartTags that are shipped with the phones. These tokens can store instructions for your phone to do whenever it communicates with it via NFC. If you keep a tag at the office, whenever you come in, you can swipe your phone over the tag to perform routine tasks such as messaging your wife that you already arrived at the office, turn on WiFi, set ringtone volume to medium, etc.
Right now, only the Sony Xperia S is available for Php27,990. If you want to see, feel, and experience the Xperia S, be sure to catch it at your nearest Xperia Concept Shops (previously Sony Ericsson shops/stalls).
The Xperia P (Php22,990), Xperia U (Php13,990), and Xperia Sola (Php16,990) will be available over the next two months, along with the Ice Cream Sandwich update for most of their phones.
