Is 2K not enough for you? 4K screens may be forthcoming. Japanese tech manufacturer Sharp just upped the mobile display ante by introducing a 5.5-inch, 4K-resolution IGZO display.
Yep, that screen’s sporting a 3840×2160 resolution, amounting to 806ppi. It’s pretty mind-blowing to have that kind of screen display since the standard ones we see are mostly 1080p Full HD and, recently, 2K displays.
As to why this kind of resolution will prove to be beneficial to smartphones, it can be able to reproduce 4K video content pixel for pixel, which means extremely sharp and detailed visuals are blasted at a close distance. Not only that, VR experiences are getting better as 4K screens greatly enhanced pixel density, thereby removing the screen-door effect. We can never say the same about the battery life, which will be the main con if ever smartphones are equipped with this kind of resolution.
Sharp announced that the 5.5-inch 4K display will enter mass production next year.
