Anybody here into Blu-ray? The problem with Blu-ray here in the Philippines is that it’s expensive to own a collection. You have to shell around Php1,200 or so just for a Blu-ray title. And with the proliferation of HD torrent files and pirated DVDs, Filipinos have no reason to jump into the Blu-ray bandwagon until they see some drastic changes in price. It’s a shame really for those who own 40″ and up HD or Plasma TVs but can’t maximize the viewing experience Blu-ray can give.
Samsung in partnership with Tradeport has come up with an awesome solution that would make you want to watch Blu-ray videos exclusively. With the Samsung BluPass card, you can borrow online to your heart’s content any available Blu-ray title and have it delivered to your doorstep for free. Come to think of it, would you want to buy a Blu-ray title only to watch it maybe twice or thrice?
The Tradeport BluPass site has over 500 titles and growing as soon as new titles comes out. You can only borrow one title at a time, replacing it with the next title on your to-watch queue. One title limit is no big deal because you can get it the next day if you meet the cut-off time.
So now you may be asking, how much does this membership or subscription fee cost? Well for one there’s no membership fee, but only those who get a new Samsung Blu-ray player or a Samsung TV (that comes with a Blu-ray player) can get this BluPass. The cheapest Samsung Blu-ray player is around Php6,000 which is equivalent to about 4 Blu-ray discs. When you get your BluPass card, you also get 6-month’s worth of free subscription to BluPass.
After the free 6 months subscription, the renewal rates are as follows:
Card Type | Duration | No. Of Rentals | No. Of Discs | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Metro Manila Area | ||||
Silver | 6 mos. | 10 | 1 | P1,490 |
Gold | 1 year | Unlimited | 1 | P2,990 |
Platinum | 1 year | Unlimited | 2 | P3,990 |
Central & South Luzon (Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, Rizal only) | ||||
Silver | 6 mos. | 10 | 1 | P1,990 |
Gold | 1 year | Unlimited | 1 | P3,490 |
Farther Luzon and Vizmin | ||||
Silver | 6 mos. | 10 | 1 | P1,990 |
That Gold membership for P2,990 sounds like a good deal to me if you want to maximize your Blu-ray player. Tradeport gets its Blu-ray titles from Magnavision and they also have 3D Blu-ray titles. You can browse their movie library to check the available titles. They also have multiple copies of blockbuster flicks. One thing’s for sure, Dark Knight and Transformers looks really awesome in Blu-ray.
So what do you think? Perfect gift for dad? Head over to the BluPass site to learn more.

Is it possible to just get the BluPass card without buying a samsung bluray player, so that I can use this rental service with other bluray players?
nope. it’s exclusive to Samsung.
I bought a Samsung LED TV here in the Philippines but I got my Samsung Bluray player in the US. That time, kasi, wala akong makitang bluray player sa stores. Is it possible for me to get a BluPass?
I just want to be enrolled with Blu Ray for the freebies after buying a Samsung TV. I’m having problems with the procedure/requirements.
