ASUS ROG Z370 gaming motherboards
ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) announced the Maximus X and Strix Z370 collections, featuring support for the latest generation of Intel Core processors. With up to 6 cores and 12 threads, 8th Generation (Coffee Lake) chips promise unmatched performance and versatility, as well as substantial overclocking potential. These specs not only cater to PC gamers, but power users as well.
Maximum Performance
The latest ROG gaming motherboard lineup includes some of the highest-performing Maximus units. The Maximus X Apex touts itself as a gaming and overclocking board. On the other hand, the Maximus X Hero blends performance with premium other features. Meanwhile, Maximus X Code explores alternative performance essentials for gamers and power users. Finally, the Maximus X Formula comes with a feature set best-suited for showcase PCs.
More Affordable Options
While the Maximus series falls on the higher end of the lineup, ROG intends to market the Strix series towards wider audience.
Gamers can access their motherboard essentials for less the price. Full-sized ATX options include the Strix Z370-E and Z370-F Gaming, and an unexpected retro revival, the Strix Z370-H Gaming. Meanwhile, the mATX Strix Z370-G Gaming and Mini-ITX Strix Z370-I Gaming come in smaller form factors.

Testing limits
Many claim to have the best performance, but few live up to the promise.
Apex, an overclocking mechanism built for taking CPUs to the extreme, launched along with the Maximus IX series this year. Within just a few months, they’ve already claimed world records and top scores with Intel’s Z270 and X299 platforms. This time, the New Maximus X Apex sets the highest 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8700K frequency record. The board managed to reach 7.3GHz on all six-core and 12-core threads. In addition, it also claimed the highest DDR4 memory frequency record with a top speed of 5529.2MHz.
