I believe this year is the year of eSports here in the Philippines. Almost every month there’s a major event in the country’s gaming scene and there’s no stopping it. The recently concluded MSI Overdrive event at the SM North Edsa Cyberzone was jam-packed with gamers from all over the country and even featured one of the top team in eSports, Team Fnatic.
It was 3 days of pure gaming bliss. I was only able to attend Day 2 because of my busy schedule but here’s what happened. They had a free play on day 1 for everyone to experience how MSI’s gaming laptops perform with the latest games in the country today. There was also a Rig Modding and Overclocking seminar from United Modders Philippines in cooperation with Rig Noobies. Capping off day 1 was the Dota Wildcard qualifiers for the MSI Dota Tournament and the Ultimate Rig Showdown.
The second day started off with tournament eliminations for Dota, Starcraft II, Crossfire and League of Legends. Lots of prizes were in store for teams and they even have the chance to face against Team Fnatic, a professional gaming team consisting of players from across the globe and competes in tournaments like Counter-Strike, Starcraft II, League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, Halo and Dota 2. This was also the day for cosplayers to don their best costumes as they compete against one another in the presence of the Cosplay Queen herself, Alodia Gosiengfiao.
MSI Overdrive is surely one of the gaming events to look forward to in the coming years. Surely, the eSports industry is gaining its momentum in the Philippines and more likely, catch the attention of gamers all over the country.
