Honor indefinitely withholds Honor 8 Oreo update
While Honor, a sub-brand of Huawei, has crafted some of the best hardware for the past years, its software seems a bit lackluster. Recently, instead of launching with Oreo, the company released the Honor 7X with Nougat. It turns out Honor 8 users would also get some rather disappointing news. Apparently, Honor has indefinitely withheld the Honor 8 Oreo update, its official Indian Twitter account notes. It also explains that this is due to software incompatibility.
Huawei and Honor have urged users to keep posted as they looked into Oreo updates for its Honor 8 lineup late 2017. Launched a bit later than the Honor 8 itself, the 8 Pro and 8 Lite will receive the Oreo update. Recently updated to Nougat and EMUI 5, the Honor 8 initially came with Marshmallow and the less sophisticated EMUI 4.1. The much later Lite and Pro variants, of course, already had the Nougat/EMUI 5 setup equipped.
Honor India’s official Twitter account offers but the vaguest justification regarding the software unavailability:
we can understand your concern. However, we regret to inform you that Honor 8 is not compatible for Android Oreo update due to hardware and software limitations. We always work for our customers and we are really glad to have you as an Honor customer. Inconvenience is regretted.
