Yesterday, Dell unveiled their XPS 14z laptop, one of the thinnest fully featured 14-inch laptop in the market.
We’ve been spoiled by Ultrabooks with the “œthin laptop” claim so seeing the XPS 14z made us second-guess Dell. It may not be thin according to Ultrabook standards but the XPS 14z has a built-in optical drive, HDD and optional discrete graphics.
Now that’s out of the way, the Dell XPS 14z is one of the gorgeous-looking laptop we’ve seen. It’s not plain looking at all with its anodized-aluminum finish and ranks up their with the Sony VAIO in terms of style and build quality.
The most appealing thing about the Dell XPS 14z would be its 14-inch HD WLED display which has a really thin bezel thereby allowing the it to fit in a body made for 13-inchers.
Powering the XPS 14z is either a Core i5 or Core i7 2nd Generation Intel Core processor and starts with a 4GB DDR3 RAM. You’ll also get a 500GB HDD or you can have it configured with SSD for faster performance. An NVIDIA GeForce GT520M is present to take care of your video processing needs.
Most of the ports are situated at the back of the laptop which might pose a problem for those placing this laptop against the wall. Ports include a USB 3.0 and a mini Display-Port and all the usual things.
The XPS 14z features a backlit, spill-resistant chiclet keyboard and a slot load optical disc drive. A cool thing they showed us here is the battery indicator at the side. You don’t have to turn on the machine just to check the battery life, press the button and the 5 LED indicators will tell you if you need to charge your battery or not.
The Dell XPS 14z is still thin having a less than an inch body and weighs 4.36 pounds. The underside gives you no option to easily replace the 8-cell battery. Dell claims that its battery can give you up to 6 hours and 42 minutes worth of straight computing.
The XPS 14z laptop is available today in select retail stores nationwide at a starting price of Php 65,150 (with Intel Core i5) and Php 69,590 (with Intel Core i7).
