With the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) turning 50, the ASEAN Foundation looks to establish several new initiatives focused on building the Southeast Asian identity. Part of this includes the ASEAN Data Science Explorers (ASEAN DSE), a regional tech competition.
This endeavor moved forward with the assistance of SAP, the market leader in enterprise application software. Furthermore, it targets tertiary students across all 10 member-nations. The competition itself deals with data analytics and its key role in facing the region’s social issues.
In addition, the SAP BusinessObjects Cloud tool takes an active role in encouraging participants to deliver data-driven insights. Basically, these insights directly deal with United Nation Sustainable Development Goals. Examples of these goals include good health and well-being, quality education, and gender equality.
The competition truly gets underway in October, with winners of the respective in-country competitions going to the regional final. Afterwards, the regional final itself will happen in Jakarta, Indonesia in November 2017. Students can register for the competition, and learn more details via the ASEAN DSE website. The registration portal will remain open until June 16, 2017.
