The game series originally debuted in 1997. In this game, players must guide troops from the Stone Age to the Classical Period. Soon after, the series also took on other significant time periods. 1999’s Age of Empire II tackled the Middle Ages, and in 2005, Age of Empires III went to the Colonial. While we don’t know much about where Age of Empires IV will take us, hints do point towards a return to roots.
“We can’t wait to tap into our strengths as a studio to fuse historical context with deep strategic gameplay, and to bring this franchise back to the forefront of gaming and into the hands of its beloved community.”
Despite these minimal details, Relic assured fans that updates would come soon. As a company, Relic Entertainment also brought Company of Heroes and Homeworld to the gaming market.
