Building on the Blade brand (biggest selling Android phone in China), ZTE announces the availability of a new budget quad-core dual-SIM phone in the form of the Blade E.
The ZTE Blade E (V956) touts a 4.5-inch FWVGA touchscreen display and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It uses a new but budget quad-core Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm clocking at 1.2GHz. This is the same chip used on the Samsung Galaxy Win.
Downside on this phone would be its 512MB RAM. Internal storage is at 4GB with support for microSD. There’s a 5-megapixel camera at the back plus a VGA front-facing cam. Battery is rated at 1600mAh.
The ZTE Blade E is already available with an SRP of Php6,790. It seems to compete with the Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 which almost has the same specs but with 1GB RAM and a sharper qHD display.

Pwede bang kahit wag na quad-core, kahit dual-core lang, basta 1GB ang RAM? Yun kasi talaga ang para sa akin importante sa phone eh, yung hindi ma-lag, smooth ang transition from apps to apps, scrolling, etc. Especially kapag games na ang pinag-usapan. Kahit itong Flare ko na dual-core, 512MB lang ang RAM, laging force-closed ang mga games. Meron na nga bang budget phone na 1GB ang RAM? If there is, please let me know, parang gusto ko na palitan itong Flare ko.
I think the reason why they’re sticking quad cores now instead of dual cores is because the latest quad core from Mediatek is on a 28nm process, whereas the dual cores are on 45nm. It uses less power, which allows the manufacturer to use larger displays and smaller batteries for the same running time. It also helps that a quad core allows for easier marketing since buyers would think more cores = speed.
Likewise with the 512MB RAM. Compared to feature phones, Android with 512MB is relatively much better. Sure when it’s loaded the apps would lag and they’re not so smooth, but at least you can run way more apps than on a feature phone.
I think next year we’ll be able to see 1GB memory on the entry level androids for 5k or lower. Until then, think of 1GB memory as a feature they want to upsell you to.

yep flame 2.0 seems to be the better deal in terms of specs/price ratio. for just over a hundred more you’ll have 1GB RAM and qHD display.
Cherry Mobile Razor will beat this one.
