Any dormant World of Warcraft players out there?
World of Warcraft: Cataclsym is the third expansion of this massive multiplayer online role-playing game. It has been released in December last year and you might be wondering if it’s time to dust off that old character and unleash hell against the Alliance or the Horde in the wake of the cataclysm.
The expansion has some good stuff on it as well as some little, but reasonable things going against it.
The Good
With the new expansion comes new race/class combinations that you would surely have fun trying out. Two new races, both the Goblin (Horde) and Worgen (Alliance) have amazing racial abilities and a riveting back story to boot.
Cataclysm also features new zones, dungeons and quest mechanics and goals that are easy enough for new players but still kept interesting for the veterans. The old Azeroth also got a major facelift which you can explore by flying!
With regards to questing and leveling, it’s now easier and less of a grind than before. There’s also guild leveling which opens up guild benefits and rewards. It’s not all fun and games though as heroic dungeons are now harder and more challenging compared to the previous expansion (WotLK). They’re more comparable to the difficulty of the Burning Crusade although some encounters seem to be on steroids that needs to be toned down.
The Bad
A couple of things that WoW probably needs to address on a future update. The phasing mechanics makes gathering professions like mining and herbalism frustrating. You see a mining node and by the time you get to it, it’s already gone.
Then there’s the new secondary profession called archeology where you collect artifacts throughout the world to unlock paths or get rewards. It needs to be tweaked to make it more worth the effort. It takes too long to travel from one dig site to another and most of the rewards are just not worth it. Even the cosmetic rewards have low use duration and the effects break easily.
Conclusion
As a whole and in short, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm would appeal to both new and old players. Starting out as a new player has never been easier with the new quest and leveling mechanics. And as for older players, there’s enough challenges and changes to keep them interested for quite some time.
