Want to know the biggest differences between the upcoming Vivo V11 and the old Vivo V9? You’ve come to the right place. Both phones are fairly capable mid-range handsets running Android 8.1 — or at least, some semblance of it — and they’ve each got their own strengths and weaknesses. Here, we take a look at what exactly changed with the move from one model to another. Is one better or worse than the other? Read on to know.
Screen: Bigger and better
The Vivo V11 offers the most impressive screen-to-body ratio on any phone with a notch at this point in time. In fact, the only phones that can best it in this regard are the Vivo NEX and the OPPO Find X.
That is to say that the Vivo V9 loses in this point of the comparison. It simply has a bigger notch and a smaller display. Not to mention, its screen uses an IPS LCD panel. Sure, it might look good, but it can’t hold a candle to the V11’s AMOLED panel.
Cameras: Improved all-around
At first glance, you might think that the Vivo V9 has a better rear camera setup than the V11. It comes with a 16MP rear camera sensor as opposed to the 12MP sensor on its direct successor.
But the megapixel count doesn’t really count for much at all, as the newer model uses dual pixel PDAF technology, which gets further enhanced with Vivo’s latest AI camera features.
Even the front camera has been improved, going from 24MP on the V9 to 25MP on the V11. Both have fixed focus sensors so the jump of one pixel up is really the only thing worth noting here.
Battery: Longer use per charge
For the battery, Vivo went with something a little bit bigger for the V11. Whereas the V9 came with a 3260mAh Lithium-ion battery, the V11 has a Lithium-polymer alternative with a capacity of 3400mAh. It’s a minor jump, to be sure, but it’s still an improvement. With the added power savings of the 1080p OLED screen, it could last a whole lot longer per full charge. The bundled 18W charger should also help it recharge in no time at all.

The little differences
While it’s fun to look at what both the Vivo V9 and V11 have in common, it’s a bit satisfying to see where exactly the new model improves upon the older one. The inclusion of an in-display fingerprint scanner, which works despite being hidden from plain sight, and the smallest notch ever are almost indicative of the kind of “leap” that the V11 offers over its predecessor.
The question is, are you going to pony up for all this new tech? Or does the old model give you everything you need, especially now that its price has been reduced? Be sure to give these spec lists a once-over before you decide.
