After having completed the initial development process, Vivo announced that they plan to spearhead the industry development of 5G phones. The whole endeavor is based upon the company’s work on the 5G smartphone software and hardware for the Vivo NEX. Using Qualcomm’s X50 Modem, the Vivo NEX is one step closer to becoming a reality as the optimization of its other features are currently in progress. When tests are done, and the proper infrastructures are put in place, Vivo sees the project to hopefully be launched by 2019.
The 5G version of the Vivo NEX will include a dual connection for both LTE and NR based on 3GPP Release 15 standards. Following the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) release of its vision for 5G, Vivo began to research and set up an institute in Beijing which led them to become one of the main contributors for the 3GPP standard group to develop 5G technology.
