ViewSonic which is known more for LCD monitors recently showed us their tablets and their smartphones. I know about their tablets since last year but I was surprised to find out that they also offer smartphones. The ViewSonic ViewPad 4 is one of their Android smartphone offerings.
The ViewSonic ViewPad 4 sports a Qualcomm MSM 8255 1GHz processor and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It has a 4.1-inch WVGA (480 x 800) capacitive touchscreen display. It has a boxy look which reminds me of the Cherry Mobile Magnum HD but with a silver band at the bottom part for their logo.
Anyway, this phone is up par with the the other 4-inch 1 GHz phones in terms of features and performance. It has a 5-megapixel camera at the back that can do 720p HD recording. It also includes a front-facing camera for video calls. It has a mini-HDMI port in case you want to project your phone’s screen on a bigger display.
Aside from those standard features, the ViewPad 4 also comes with the ViewScene. Think of HTC’s Sense UI. It’s ViewSonic’s layer on top of Android that can accept multiple phone profiles that you can automatically set to change whenever you’re at home or the workplace with the use of GPS. Sounds cool but coming from an unknown mobile phone brand, what we’re concerned about is the build quality. Can’t comment on that yet though until we receive a unit for review.
ViewSonic says the ViewPad 4 is already here but they will be made available by the end of the month. They’re still studying the market to make the price competitive with other Android phones in its class.
