After an earlier introduction to the ‘lite’ version of its mobile site called Twitter Lite, it now tests the Twitter Lite app in the Philippines.
What sets Lite apart? This ‘lighter’ version will benefit parts of the world with limited internet cnnectivity, through less data usage. For now, though, a Twitter spokesperson mentioned that Twitter Lite PH will act as an experiment. Interestingly, the company chose the Philippines because of its slow mobile networks, expensive data plans, and the popularity of mobile devices.
All in all, this Lite version will retain familiar features, with customization regarding data-heavy image or video viewing. The app itself works well with low-storage phones, measuring in at almost 3MB. Only time will tell, though, if Twitter Lite will become an official app in the future.
