Sony Electronics Inc. released the Imaging Edge Webcam, a new desktop application that lets users turn their Sony digital camera into a high-quality webcam. The free application only needs a USB to connect the camera to the PC.
The Imaging Edge Webcam allows users to live stream and video conference in one easy step. It takes advantage of Sony’s advanced imaging technologies, including autofocus, high-resolution quality, and other additional features of compatible Sony cameras.

Their voice is critical to everything that we do in this industry,” said Ryo Ochi, General Manager, Digital Imaging Division, Sony Electronics Asia Pacific. “Given the growing demand for live streaming and video communication, we’re excited to share a new application that gives so many loyal Sony’s customers the ability to quickly and easily transform their camera into a highly effective webcam for live streaming, video calls and so much more.”
To date, the desktop application is compatible with 35 Sony camera models. It can work with the Alpha 9 II and Alpha 9. It supports the Alpha 7R IV, Alpha 7R III, and Alpha 7R II. Also in the list are the Alpha 7S II, Alpha 7S, Alpha 7 III, and Alpha 7 II. The app can also be used with the Alpha 6600, Alpha 6400, and Alpha 6100. Other supported models are the RX100 VII, RX100 VI, RX0 II, RX0, ZV-1, and more. The newly announced Alpha 7S III is compatible as well.
