Race and win in the comfort of your own home with TMP’s first motorsport competition.
Ever wanted to show off your racing skills driving one of Toyota‘s coveted sports car, the GR Supra? Maybe even win a trophy—bragging rights and all—to represent the country in an international motosport event? Now, you can play your luck as Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) recently launched its first virtual motorsport competition, the GR Supra GT Cup Asia – Philippines. It’s all happening online, and you can field against Asia’s racing champions right in the comfort of your own home.
First, register for free at TMP’s official website here. There are two major categories to choose from, the Promotional Class for beginners or casual virtual racers and the Sporting Class for the more advanced racers with professional motorsports experience. Two special categories are also open: the Celebrity and Media Class where the third champion will be selected from and the Junior Class for players below 18 years old.
This esports event is open to Filipino residents and passport holders 18 years of age and above. Joiners must have access to a Playstation 4 with an active PSN account and PS Plus subscription along with the Gran Turismo Sport game. Qualified applicants will be notified on the game’s official rules and schedules. Only the Top 24 from each category will make it to compete in the semi-final and final round; points will be assigned based on the player’s finishing time.
The first qualifying round will happen on July 23; the finals a week after. The second and third round are scheduled in August 29 and September 26. Point values increase each round which players must qualify in; those with the highest accumulated points from the two categories will be declared Philippine champions and will compete in the Asian Regional Round this October.
The GR Supra GT Cup Asia is a program under Toyota‘s Gazoo Racing brand; its Philippine leg is staged by TMP in partnership with Tuason Racing. It aims to expand TMP’s local motorsport development program including its premier one-make-race, the Vio Racing Festival set to reopen in 2021 once it’s safe to hold public gatherings and events.
