2018 brought us new innovation that we didn’t think possible years ago. But 2019 is rearing to bring more exciting innovations and breakthroughs to all smartphone enthusiasts.
Filipino online retailer Argomall shares its predictions as to what will be the top technology trends in the smartphone scene this year.
Bezels out, all-screen displays in
The tech crowd has seen enough of the different types of notches last year. For 2019, we are certainly moving on to all-screen displays. More and more smartphone brands are following what smartphone manufacturers OPPO and Vivo started–smartphones with simple, bezel-less, and real all-screen display.
Flexible, foldable handsets
Another smartphone display technology that you can look forward to is foldable screens. This is in addition to the already existing dual display technology that we’ve already seen in a few devices. Moreover, since more screen means less space for hardware, expect smartphones to carry face unlock technology and in-display fingerprint unlocking.
Bigger batteries
To compensate for the bigger screens, phones need to have bigger battery capacity as well. It’s fair to say that you will see more mobile devices with bigger juice packs that features fast-charging capabilities.
Cutting-edge connectivity
USB Type-C ports and Bluetooth takes the spotlight this 2019. With Apple having introduced wireless listening, 3.5mm jacks may soon be extinct to Android users as well.
Stronger internals
Smartphone manufacturers are sure to bring better configuration in terms of the internals as manufacturers bring regular software updates to users. Also, with the 5G rollout slated to commence this year, expect heightened security to reach consumers.
We will also see more brands bringing competitively priced devices. Upcoming sub-P10,000 phones are expected to carry an up to 128GB onboard storage or even more. For the high-end category, smartphones are likely to sport 10GB RAM up to 12GB of memory. Entry-level and low-end smartphones, on the other hand, are most likely to carry 3GB RAM out of the box.
Asian companies will also remain top players in the market, with Chinese firms introducing more powerful chipsets. However, with even more players entering the competition, we’re expecting more fast processors sold at lower price points.
Shoot! Snap!
Of course, you should just expect 2019 to be another year for camera-centric devices. Multiple cameras in a smartphone is still a thing, and maybe you’ll see units carry more than five cameras around second half of the year.
Wear phones on your wrist
Wearables will also take the spotlight in 2019, particularly smartwatches. This time, however, they’re not limited to fitness functions alone. Upcoming smartwatches are expected to deliver more, making them extensions of your smartphones. You will be able to answer calls, send messages and emails, and more right from your wrist.
