Tamagotchi, the hit portable creature-raising game from the 90’s, celebrates its 20th birthday with the announcement that it will leap to smartphones in 2018!
Originally, Tamagotchi simply announced the release of a special anniversary edition. However, the upcoming My Tamagotchi Forever for iOS and Android promises to bring the classic kid’s game to the age of smart devices. Set in Tamatown, it features other adorable in-game characters that you can befriend. On paper, it sounds similar to Nintendo’s newly-released Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
For those looking for the classic routine, no worries. The main task on hand includes feeding, bathing, and cleaning your Tamagotchi. Once you play though, expect to get alerts on your phone every time your virtual pet needs attention. Fail to give it attention and properly take care of it, and your critter turns into an ogrish monster. But when you’re not attending to its needs, you can play mini games that give you coins. In turn, these coins unlock food, costumes, decorations and other items. However, the options also exists for players to make in-app purchases to get the goodies.
My Tamagotchi Forever is already out in Canada, while the rest of the world might get it in 2018. For now, be sure to check out the official trailer.
