We filipinos have gotten more and more bored with the mundane. From waiting in line at the MRT to the gigantic standstill which we call EDSA. We are faced with many situations where we are stuck somewhere and our time slowly getting wasted. In the age of smartphones and social media, that problem has been adressed a little bit. But, what happens when no one is updating their status or sharing a new meme? Well with MovieClub these long waits and extended traffic jams might not seem as long anymore.
Wide Selection of Movies
MovieClub is an app by Filipinos for Filipinos that streams movies for free. This video-on-demand platform is a good way to make the most out of the long ride from work to home. It hosts a great number of international movies, but what is more impressive is that it holds plenty of local movies. From the past to the present, from the indy scene to the mainstream front. Movie Club has a wide range of movies especially local. For examp, leyou can find an underground masterpiece “Metro Manila” starring John Arcilla, and even an old comedy staple “Little and Big Weapon” starring Joey de Leon and Rene Requestas, on MovieClub. Of course, there are also new and international movies but where else can you find films like “Madonna ang Babaeng Ahas” and “Mahal Saan ka Natulog Kagabi?”
As mentioned earlier signing up for MovieClub is free, you simply need to download the app and sign in through your Facebook account or e-mail address. Another great thing about this is that even though the movies are free they are all legal. You get to watch good movies and have a clean conscience with MovieClub.
As of the moment, this app is available only for Android devices but moving into iOS is definitely in the works. This app is innovative as it tries to bring the local entertainment scene to new heights by finding and introducing ways to monetize and adapt to the new age of media consumption. Not only that but it can also serve as a digital vault for local films where they can be digitally remastered and be enjoyed by newer generations.
