Soon after the release of Sony Xperia XZ, the Sony Xperia XZs was unveiled. The new addition to the Sony lineup is very similar to its predecessor. However, there is more to the Xperia XZs than what meets the eye. Although the XZs only looks like a compact version of XZ, Sony actually did an overhaul in XZs’ camera. We will explore more about the Sony Xperia XZs in this initial review and first impressions.
Sony Xperia XZs Experience
The first thing that you will notice about the Xperia XZs is its splitting image of the Xperia XZ. It also has a 5.2-inch FHD LCD display protected by Corning Gorilla glass. Furthermore, it features the same design where the edges are rounded and flattens as they go to the front and back. Both XZ and XZs features Sony’s signature OmniBalance flat-slab design with large bezels. Both smartphones also have a 13MP front camera. They have the same dimensions, the same weight, and the same battery capacity, 2900 mAh.
However, there are certain, small details in the Sony Xperia XZs that truly add to its unique identity. One detail in particular lies in the 5.2-inch FHD LCD display, which features reasonably thin bezels, which stands out in a market flooded with ‘bezel-less’ phones. Besides this, the frosted metallic black plate also holds the 19MP camera with the flash. The right side of the phone has the camera button, volume rockers, and power button. At the left is the SIM tray and SD card slot. Lastly, the top has the 3.5 mm audio jack and the bottom, the USB Type-C Port.

Lastly, the top has the 3.5 mm audio jack and the bottom, the USB Type-C Port. The physical buttons will take a bit of getting used to, but I really liked the camera button as makes you feel that their camera is indeed special.
Sony Xperia XZs runs on Android Nougat with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 matched with an Andreno 530 GPU. It has a 64 GB ROM and an expandable memory up to 256GB via micro SD. One of the best upgrades of XZs is the 4GB RAM. This is a good move from the Japanese brand as it pushed XZs to perform similarly with other expensive flagships. Lastly, it has an IP68 rating so it is waterproof and dustproof.
Sony Xperia XZs Camera Overhaul
Although the physical appearance of Xperia XZs is very similar to Xperia XZ, the power of its camera is more similar to the Xperia XZ Premium. It also has a 19MP sensor, with a f/2.0 aperture and the ability to capture photos before you press the shutter. Coming from the same company that makes great cameras, the XZs has a lot of great of features for their main shooter. It has triple image sensing technology, predictive hybrid autofocus, and anti-distortion shutter just to name a few. But, the key features of the XZs are the slow-motion capture and the Motion Eye Sensor.
The 19MP rear camera sensor has a slow-motion feature that can capture 960 fps Super Slow Motion and 4K videos. Furthermore, its Motion Eye sensor can take superb photos whenever movement is detected. Indeed, the capabilities of the Xperia XZs’ camera is way too advanced for a smartphone compared to its current competitors in the market right now.
