Sony Ericsson is no more as Sony bought Ericsson’s shares in the partnership but the Xperia line continues. Unveiled at the CES 2012 is one of the first Sony-branded Android phone, the gorgeously slim Sony Xperia Ion.

The Sony Xperia Ion boasts of a 4.6-inch super-wide LED HD Reality Display with the Mobile Bravia Engine. It has a whopping 1280 x 720 resolution giving it a really sharp and clear display.

This is not only one of the first Sony phone but also the first Xperia to feature a dual-core 1.5GHz processor. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with the Timescape UI but I’m sure ICS won’t be far behind.

Not to be outdone by its screen, the Xperia Ion has a 12-megapixel camera with the Sony Exmor R for mobile CMOS sensor that can do 1080p Full HD video recording and 3D Sweep Panorama. The 1.3-megapixel front camera is no slouch either as it can output a 720p display for video calls.

The Xperia Ion also packs 1GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage with support for up to 32GB microSD. It also features the Walkman’s SensMe which sorts your shuffled playlist according to the mood of the music. Don’t ask me, I don’t know how that actually works.

Right now, this is a phone that will be exclusive to AT&T but I’m sure Sony will have something very similar for the open market. The closest phone to this would be the new Sony Xperia S which packs a smaller 4.3-inch screen and no microSD expansion slot.
