Sony is eyeing to shut down its mobile business in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa.
Based on a tweet of Evan blass, a prolific leaker in the tech industry, the Japanese company might cease its operations in the said regions before the year ends.
Although there was no reason stated, industry sources said Sony’s smartphone business has not been doing well in the market for the past years.
Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida earlier said the company would try to refocus its efforts to its products that are more profitable. The firm is also focusing and investing to its plan to stabilize business by 2020 through 5G technology.
Despite this leak, Sony will still operate in Asia, Europe and the US as they remain a competitive player in these markets.
Sony has yet to issue official statement regarding this rumor.
