Yesterday, Sony unveiled the first waterproof Handycam with a built-in projector in the local market. The Sony HDR-GWP88 is the perfect tool for active people out there who likes to take videos in all sorts of places and weather conditions.
This Handycam is not only waterproof (up to 33 ft.), it’s also freezeproof, shockproof, and dustproof so you can definitely bring and use this anywhere, except in space maybe. And with the built-in projector, you and your friends or family can enjoy the videos right away, even when you’re underwater just because you can.
Sony brought back the “œvertical” style of handling with the HDR-GWP88 making it more pocketable to allow you to easily take “œselfie” videos and photos (a record button is also present at the front). There’s a dedicated shutter button so you can also take stills while recording.
The HDR-GWP88 sports a 20.4 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor with a Sony G lens with an aperture range of f/1.8 to f/3.4. With its fast focusing, you can take high-quality and sharp video even as you switch from under and above water. The projector is located opposite the 3-inch 460k dot LCD touchscreen display. It can throw images as near as 1.6 feet to about 6 feet without sacrificing the viewing quality.
There’s a built-in 16GB internal storage on the HDR-GWP88 and you can also expand that via microSD (up to 64GB). There’s also a mini-HDMI port and charging is done via microUSB.
The Sony HDR-GWP88 is going to be available starting this weekend with an SRP of Php34,999. You’ll get a Sony waterproof case, a wide angle lens converter you can attach to it, an extra battery, and a 16GB microSD card. It comes in white and black.
