With the recent demise of the NES Classic/Famicom Mini, plenty of critics thought that Nintendo made a huge mistake. However, recent rumors may negate this perception, as people now say that a new ‘mini’ console will come soon.
Enter the SNES/Super Famicom Mini, or following Nintendo’s standard, the SNES Classic. Development of the device should end around the latter part of this year, with units apparently coming out for Christmas 2017. Nevertheless, the upcoming release of the SNES Classic appears to be a good reason to discontinue the NES Classic. Not only that, but the SNES arguably holds the better game library. Finally, with fan feedback, Nintendo may include even more games on the system.
What we found even more interesting: the specs on the NES Classic. In layman’s terms, the NES Classic hardware contains more power than an NES, and moreso, a 3DS. The ARM-powered chip system means that with a bit of tweaking and upgrading, an SNES Classic seems doable.
Finally, Eurogamer have a solid track record in terms of Nintendo rumors that came true. Thus, while we caution readers to take this with a grain of salt, getting excited doesn’t seem so bad.
