Smart showcases 5G technology in a 5G-powered esports exhibition featuring the country’s first and only franchise-based esports league, The Nationals.
e-sports athletes from PLDT-Smart Omega and Cignal Ultra Warriors battled it out on Mobile Legends using Smart’s 5G network, showcasing Huawei Mate 5G, OPPO Reno 5G, and ZTE Axion 5G smartphones.
Since its installation of the country’s first 5G base stations in Makati and Pampanga a couple of years ago, PLDT and Smart have continuously been at the forefront of promoting 5G, partnering with various establishments, organizations, and universities. Among its initiatives are the transformation of Araneta City into the country’s first Smart 5G Lifestyle Hub and 5G-enabled shopping mall, and Ateneo de Manila University as the first Smart 5G campus.
PLDT and Smart have also been investing heavily on its infrastructures and capabilities, establishing the Smart 5G Alliance as an accelerator for 5G innovations, and partnering with Cisco in upgrading their infrastructure into a 5G-ready IP transport network.
With the growth of esports, PLDT and Smart are solid in its commitment of advancing esports in the country through its available technologies. At the recently concluded SEA Games, Smart offered incentives for gold medalists of the Philippine national esports team Sibol, and demonstrated its 5G capabilities at the New Clark City. Smart will also be providing indoor 5G coverage to various esports teams under The Nationals.
