Two years after introducing LTE (Long-Term Evolution) or 4G in the country, SMART today announced that it is now running 5G or LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) wireless technology in its network.
LTE-A or 5G is ten times faster than 3G and more than twice as fast as 4G, delivering data from between 100 megabits per second (mbps) to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) – imagine downloading a 10MB file in less than a second. With LTE-A, SMART users can now enjoy watching YouTube videos and make video-calls seamlessly.
SMART started testing LTE-A across the country August last year, delivering results of more than 100Mbps in Makati City, Boracay, and in Davao during the Kadayawan festival.
“œEven as our 3G and 4G networks continue to be unrivaled, SMART becomes the first operator to leap into the future and put the Philippines at par with the world’s most advanced countries in terms of mobile communications technology,” said Orlando B. Vea, founder and Chief Wireless Advisor of SMART.
