The recently announced Sharp Aquos R2 Compact is evidently so much more than its dual-notch. With a ton of other amazing features, it wouldn’t be surprising if the device quickly becomes a favorite after it becomes available.
Design & Construction
The Aquos R2 Compact’s 5.2” screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The device famously houses two notches: the front camera notch, and the fingerprint sensor. Because of the decreased bezels, the device’s screen is maximized and users can view more content immediately. It also supports a USB Type-C port and a standard headphone jack.
The Aquos R2 Compact would fit comfortably in the palm of the user’s hands, with the help of the device’s curved edges. And with its glossy acrylic resin back panel and aluminum side frames, the device is oozing sophistication and style.
The smartphone weighs approximately 135g at 131 x 64 x 9.33mm and is available in three colors: Smoky Green, Deep White, and Pure Black.
Display
The Aquos R2 Compact’s display is heavily based on Sharp’s LCD TV Aquos for a cinema-like experience with bright colors and graphics. And with HDR and Dolby Atmos and Vision, the R2 Compact’s videos have more natural contrasts and the sounds are more realistic.
The Aquos R2 Compact has a Full HD+ High Speed IGZO LCD Display for smoother performance noticeable even when scrolling through documents or surfing the internet. Through the fingerprint sensor, the user may use gestures to trigger some actions or features.
Through gesture operations in the fingerprint sensor, the user also has access to several features such as ‘Home’ and ‘Return’, among others.
Camera
The Aquos R2 Compact has a 8MP front camera and a 22.6MP rear one. The back camera has an Optical Image and Video Stabilization, AI Auto Mode, an intelligent Beauty Mode, and is packed with Propix image quality engine. The Optical Image and Video Stabilization technology makes more stable photos and videos by adapting the lens of the camera to camera shake. In AI Auto Mode, the camera will automatically select which shooting mode is needed based on the subject and scene. The Beauty Mode is perfect for taking eye-catching selfies. Lastly, Propix helps produce amazing photos by automatically adjusting its white balance and exposure.
Performance & Battery
The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact is equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage expandable by microSD by up to 512GB. The device has a 2,5000mAh battery, complete with Intelligent Charge fast charging technology and runs on Android 9.0 Pie. Aside from accessing the R2 Compact through the fingerprint sensor, the device can also be unlocked through a face recognition software. The device is water resistant and has a capless structure, making it operable even with droplets on the screen. Aside from that, the R2 Compact is also dust resistant.
The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact is expected to be available to the world in early 2019.
