Another ultraportable laptop stepping in the arena is the Samsung Series 5 Slimbook 535. It belongs to the stylish and portable breed of laptops powered by an AMD processor to fit your budget. Samsung calls it a Slimbook. Let’s see why this machine is quite different from other ultrabooks out in the market.
Design
The 13.3-inch Samsung Series 5 535 has a sturdy, aluminum body. The housing of this notebook has a matte-finish. You don’t have to worry about smudges and fingerprints.
It has a 1.3 megapixel HD web camera at the top of the screen, which works seamlessly with the pre-installed Cyberlink YouCam program to capture images and videos.
At the upper-right corner of the keyboard is the uniquely designed and very intuitive power button. The status lights for battery, power, and Wi-Fi are situated upfront. Mic is at the left-hand side of the keyboard.
For a very thin and light machine, I/O ports are pretty standard. At the right side, you will find two USB ports and a 4-in-1 (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) multi-card reader.
At the left side, you have a charging port, a gigabit Ethernet port, a USB 3.0 port, an HDMI-out port, a headphone/microphone jack, and a mini-display port.
Keyboard
The keyboard area has a simple matte finish and has ample space for the palms to rest on while typing.
It’s designed with a sleek chiclet-style keyboard that had a “springy” feedback for that wonderful typing experience. One drawback is that it’s not backlit but I’m sure you can live with that.
Display and Speakers
This Series 5 laptop has a 13.3-inch matte LED HD display. The screen produces rich and saturated colors with a standard resolution of 1366×768. Video playback is clear even in bright conditions thanks to the anti-glare matte display and Samsung’s SuperBright technology for a 300-nit screen.
The speakers are located at the bottom of the unit. Sound output via is very clear and pretty impressive with the SoundAlive technology. It’s loud enough to fill a small room, which will be great for watching videos or for small presentations.
Performance and battery life
This model is powered by an AMD Dual-Core A6-4455M Accelerated Processor with a whopping 4GB RAM. It has Fast Boot which allows for 20-second boot up or 2-second wake up from sleep.
The integrated AMD Radeon HD 7500G Graphics delivered great performance and frame rate for videos and casual games. This laptop is also equipped with a 500 GB hard drive capacity that can house your multimedia files.
As for usage, a fully charged Series 5 will last for about 4 hours on a single charge. This may still vary, depending on the amount of usage and power settings by the user. I’ve noticed that charging is fast and efficient which is a plus for those who are always on the go.
Verdict
At just Php29,900, the Samsung Series 5 Slimbook is portable, stylish, and budget-friendly compared to other Intel-based notebooks of its class. This laptop will be great for individuals who are always on the go.
So, if you’re looking for a laptop that has a great design and can cater to your basic multimedia needs, then consider checking out the Samsung Series 5 Slimbook 535. It also comes with an equally stylish bag that doesn’t look like a laptop bag at all.
