The end of the 3.5mm headphone jack has been making waves this past year. It started with the iPhone 7, but now sources confirm that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will not have it too.
A long-standing rumor stated that Samsung would make their own headphone port. However, this changes with what seem to be reports of a USB Type-C option. While this would mean users may employ third-party cords, it also means that there’s only one port for charging and headphones.
Technologically-speaking, the 3.5mm jack has long been obsolete, but smartphone manufacturers would have you think that this year is its true death. Another smartphone staple that’s predicted to be removed will be the home button. However, Samsung fans should note that only the physical button would be gone, but the ‘Home’ function would be relegated to an icon on the screen itself. At least, according to rumors.
Finally, some also claim that the S8 will have a proper optical fingerprint sensor and a large screen-to-body ratio. Only time will tell if these rumors prove to be true, though
