Surpassing 4.1 million connected homes last 2017, telco provider PLDT is eyeing to provide broadband coverage to 5.3 million homes nationwide for this year, and is optimistic to bring Fibr-fast internet services to 1.3 million copper-based DSL subscribers by 2019.
This move was announced during the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) APAC Conference recently held at the Shangri-La hotel in Taguig City attended by Asia Pacific’s telecom leaders and policy makers to address the socioeconomic benefits of deep fiber and provide a platform for sharing technologies and strategies.
“As the preferred digital partner of Filipinos, we understand how access to mobile data and internet speed can make a huge difference in their lives,” said PLDT SVP and Head of Consumer Business Market Development Oscar A. Reyes Jr., who took the podium on the second day of the conference. “Our network expansion and modernization programs represent our commitment to bring high-speed internet to more Filipino homes.
PLDT is the first local telco to roll out the country’s pioneer FTTH network, which paved way for the Fibr-powered SmartCity and SmartProvince programs which aims to stretch fiber connections outside Metro Manila. The said development has reach northern parts of Bataan, southern places in Cavite, as well as in Naga City, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos City, Isulan, and Sultan Kudarat.
In addition to this, PLDT also has the SmartHome program intended to bring stronger internet connections for families at the convenience of their own homes.
Extending these services to smartphone users, Smart, PLDT’s mobile arm was recently given recognition by mobile analytics firm OpenSignal for its fast LTE network services.
