PLDT and its mobile subsidiary, Smart Communications, unveiled brand new logos and a brand new identity. These changes mirror their goal to empower their wide customer base, who are increasingly integrating digital services into their daily lives. This revamp coincides with their recent name change. The company alters its name, from “Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company” into “PLDT Inc.”, in a move to focus its business plans to data-centric services.
“Rather than allow ourselves to be disrupted by new technologies, we are disrupting ourselves. We have embarked on a digital pivot to enable us to serve the increasing needs of our people’s digital lifestyle and the country’s growing digital economy,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, the current PLDT and Smart Chairman and CEO .
The new logo symbolizes the merging of PLDT and Smart, combining the ideas of past, present, and future to serve a wide, growing number of customers. Specifically, the logo is shaped like a triangle to represent the company’s three business pillars: exceptional people, meaningful innovations, and their valuable customers.
This redesign replaces the classic PLDT logo, which is formed by a repetition of the figure of the telephone receiver into a square. The former logo has lasted for around 33 years.
