The mid-range smartphone category is a highly competitive market run by giant brands that promise to deliver functional, premium handsets at a relatively low cost. Take Oppo’s F11 Pro and Samsung’s A50—both mid-range contenders that deliver versatile camera experience, superb performance, and great battery life. Launched this March, both have timely features that meticulous techies still look for in a smartphone today. Here are its spec-by spec comparison.
Design & Construction
Both units feature a front glass and a poly-carbonate body. Samsung A50, however, has a slight advantage with its Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It comes in three iridescent color options—Black, White, and Blue that somehow mimic rainbow patterns. At the back is the triple rear camera with LED flash and branding; while on the edges are the usual volume control, power button, and card slot. For sizing, Samsung A50 measures at 6.24 x 2.94 x 0.30 in and 166 g with its fingerprint scanner found under the display.
Oppo F11 Pro’s triple-gradient design that comes in Thunder Black and Aurora Green is difficult to beat, though, as it gives a refined impression to it. A t the back of the handset is the dual-camera setup with flash and Oppo branding; at the bottom is a single speaker, headphone jack, and micro-USB port. Its notchless display is made possible due to the pop-up camera on top. It measures at 6.35 x 3.00 x 0.35 in and weighs 190 g with its fingerprint scanner mounted on the rear.
Display & Multimedia
Samsung A50‘s highlight comes in its 6.4-inch Super AMOLED (1080 x 2340 pixels) Full HD+ display, 403 ppi, and 84.9% screen-to-body ratio. Streaming multimedia content under sunlight is possible with this feature along with its Infinity-U notch and Always-on display. Oppo F11 Pro, meanwhile, boasts a 6.53-inch (1080 x 2340 pixels) display with 84.4% screen-to-body ratio and 397 ppi.
Software, Chipset & Storage
Samsung A50 is powered by the Exynos 9610 SoC with Android 9.0 (Pie), a solid performer for this price point which also hasn’t been incorporated on any Galaxy phone to date. Its four Cortex A73 cores which clocks at 2.3GHz ensures the unit performs well under intense activities. It’s also backed by a Mali G72 MP3 GPU and 4GB/6GB RAM with 64GB/128GB storage. Bonus: a dedicated miscorSD slot for a 1TB storage, too.
Meanwhile, inside the Oppo F11 Pro is the ColorOS 6.0 (based on Android 9.0 Pie) and the latest mid-range Helio P70 MediaTek SoC with Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. For storage, 4GB/6GB RAM is paired with 64GB up to 128GB of ROM. There’s also a dedicated microSD slot for 256GB of storage.
While both units deliver outstanding processing power in terms of 64-bit support, integrated graphics, and Big.Little technology, Samsung A50’s SoC takes it a bit further with its higher CPU speed, memory channels, and integrated LTE.
Camera
Samsung A50 has a triple rear 25 MP (f/1.7) + 8 MP (f/2.2) + 5 MP (f/2.2) camera threat and a 25 MP (f/2.0) selfie shooter. It features intelligent scene optimisation and a 480fps slow-motion video recording. Oppo F11 Pro, on the other hand, has a dual rear 48 MP (f/1.8) + 5 MP (f/2.4) camera setup and a motorized 16 MP (f/2.0) pop-up selfie shooter. It’s able to record 1080p and 720p at 30 fps; there’s also an Ultra Night Mode and a dedicated AI scene recognition that can decipher up to 23 scenes for flexible photo taking.
