Another Android phone from new mobile phone player and US-based company, O+ or O Plus, is the O+ 8.9, a 5-inch phone for just P8,995.
Holding this phone reminded me of how the Cherry Mobile Titan felt. The 5-inch display seems to have that 800 x 480 resolution with its not-so-sharp display.
Heft is okay. It’s not that heavy thanks to the plasticky body. The back panel has that curved tapered edges reminiscent of old Samsung phones. It also has that glossy finish that attracts smudges and fingerprints.
The O+ 8.9, like the O+ 8.12, has this feature called Air Shuffle which allows users to navigate through photos, radio stations, music, or take photos by just waving your hand over its front camera.
Specs for this phone are a bit sketchy as O+ has yet to respond to my request for exact specs on their phones. What we have at the moment is that it runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich with support for a Jelly Bean upgrade. It runs on a 1GHz dual-core processor with an unknown amount of RAM and internal storage. It has a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera with flash and most probably a VGA camera in front.
The O+ 8.9 is already out in the market for Php8,995.

is the screen IPS or qHD?
IPS is a panel type and qHD is a resolution.. its different.. but i think its not qHD but rather wvga only like titan 800×480 while qHD is 960×540..btw IPS is panel type much like Super Amoled

I prefer ips kasi true colors sya kung sa labas at loob ng bahay okay sya… di tulad amoled parang iniedit ang kulay nya pag sa labas ka halos di muna na Makita ang screen sa loob ng bahay maganda ang screen nya..isa pa mas mahal sya kung maY BUDGET ka doon ka pero kung gusto mo ng natural color go for ips…magbasa ka ng forum para mas maintindihan mo kung ano mga opinion ng mga experts…

oo mayroon na ako nito 1.0 ghz dual core(gawa rin ng tegra ito) 2 gb internal mem, 2300 mah yes dual sim sya…masasabi ko lang a good phone at that price…di lang gano malakas ang sounds pag di ka gamit ng earphone…pero highly recommended on that budget you satisfy this phone

My girlfriend got this for her mother. She bought it for 4k from an officemate who got it as a giveaway from a PR event. Was able to play with it for a few hours and I can say it’s good enough. Its build is plasticky and a bit light for its size. The screen, though it has a low resolution, is surprisingly okay. Scrolling is a bit laggy but forgivable most of the time. App launch time is okay too. I didn’t encounter much lag when running games. I ran some benchmark tests and the scores match those of midrange phones from last year like the Desire S, for instance. There’s an overlay on top of ICS, changing most system app icons and default wallpapers but menus and everything else look and feel stock. I’d say it’s a good buy, even for its 9k SRP in the market. Just keep your expectations in check and you’ll enjoy this phone.

Yes. They are compatible.. am using the mentioned apps (Instagram, Twitter, Skype, Viber, YM) on my 8.9.. Foursquare lang yung problema kasi not compatible daw.. buti hardly use it so wla ako issue with it…

Phone is really good but i have one problem lang with this unit. Mine tends to move on its own. Yung pindot ng pindot ng kung anu-ano kahit di ginagalaw. Parang gumagana ang air shuffle kahit naka disable naman lahat. Hope someone could advise what to do coz it makes the phone annoying to use. Thanks!

try to hard reset the phone to delete everything in the phone and reset all the settings.

^ have’nt experienced that. i tried to use charger from samsung it took 4 hrs to charge. is it normal? how long your battery last before you recharge it? mine last only for 24hrs i think. wifi and txt only
i have not exepreinced draining the battery kasi down to zero so I can say anything to that regard.. from 100% na try ko na mag internet via packet data (smartbro) and it gave me 5 to 6 hours of surfing time (facebook app and browser use) before it came down to 30%… then i charged again..

it does not have LED notification light.. Yes, it does. when you go to the messages folder or when your typing a message, all you need to do is pull down the notification drawer up top, its where you need to choose the default sim for sending out messages.
Not familiar with refresh rates so I cannot answer that.. this plays 720p movies max, i know this because i made a short film in december in 1080p and it doesnt play it.. but it played the 720p version of the film, and in that regard i believe it shoots 720 HD video max. In terms of video playback quality, no problems except that fact that it doesn’t have the best viewing angles but should be forgivable…
and it shoots videos in 30 frames per second.. ;0)

I can use mine 4 to 5 hours of data browsing with Smartbro.. 7 to 8 hours of browsing on wifi… that with low screen setting (around 10 to 15% brightness)..

I went to a dealer in Ayala Mall and compared this phone with the Starmobile Crystal.
I ended up choosing the Starmobile Crystal because of its sharp and crisp high resolution display.
The screen display of the O+ 8.9 is kind of low res and it reminds me of the Lenovo A60 or the Samsung Galaxy Y.
Galaxy Y and Lenovo A60 are only 256K colors.. this on the other hand is 16 Million. theres no comparison in that area.. but yeah i would agree however na hindi masyado high-res yung screen.. coz what they did is they stretched a 480 x 800 res into a 5 inch screen kaya ganun but still good nonetheless..

Hey, I got this phone a couple days ago and absolutely love it!
The only thing bad is that the rear speaker doesn’t work on mine. My dad has the same phone and he has no problems on the same issue.
Microphone, front speaker (ear speaker) and 3.5 audio jack works just fine.

Seems you activated the fm radio app w/o the earphone. Got the same problem lately. Try to play a music then insert the earphone then unplug it. It solve mine. Hope it will yours too. Pm me if it work.

yup maski ako nung binili ko yung o+ 8.9 ko di ko gusto yung pre loaded wallpapers nya. Try to download hd wallpapers na lang kay google. Maganda screen ng o+ 8.9. Not the best screen but really good. wag kayo maniwala sa sinasabi nung iba diyan na pangit screen. Maling mali sila :). Wag mo lang siyempre i compare sa screen ng note. We all know what amoled can deliver naman.
i use apex launcher nga pala. then download apex themes na rin. Great launcher replacemen for our o+

Try looking for cases built for note 2. For the most part, it won’t be a perfect fit. Pero makakakita ka rin. Cover ng note 2 gamit ko sa 8.9 ko.

sayang tong phone na to maganda pa naman kaso d nag chacharge pag ginagamit at mabilis malowbatt aside from that its all perfectly fine anyway kahit mag download ka ng battery saver wlaparing effect updated narin software nito sa jelly bean nga nga parin..
sana may better pang battery nito perfect na sanaa un lang panira madalling malowbat at ang customer service nila kelangan may log ka para matawagan nainis lang ako once nung kinausap ko ung isang customer service rep wrong info ung binigay nya at sbi niyang tetex nya ko ung location ng pag upgradan ng software gang ngaun nahanap ko na at na upgrade ko na wla paring text nga nga parin..
un lang naman mainproblem ng phone na to..
maganda ang image sa camera, maganda sa pag call, sa apps sa games sa lahat battery lang talaga.. kung may tanung ka kung anu pang gusto mong tanung base sa experience ko sa phone na to email m lang ako black_fantacy05@yahoo.com..

cant use mobile data… SMART keeps on charging airtime balance but theres no connection,
i have checked all the SIM and PHONE settings related to its mobile data connectivity, walang kwenta umaasa lang sa wifi ng company,
pero pag-nakaHOTSPOT cya nagagamit ng ibang phone yung internet nya, pero cya sa sarili nya hindi,,, right now i have no choice but to use this until such time na makabili ako ng bago… sana meh paraan sila dito

Hi just wanna ask what happen to my phone O+ 8.9 i jut got it last May 2013..then a while ago when i get my phone from my bag napansin ko na ung screen ng phone it’s like someone is touching the screen operating the apps all by itself. what i did is to remove the battery but still the same. almost 4x na ganon sya untill my sim card got PUK kc nga nag ooperate ung screen all by itself..I really don’t like it

Hi i have a serious quest.so do please if you want to help just give me a serious answer too! My father’s using 8.9 and everytime he makes a call it turns off and even though he removed it from his ear the screen stiils dead unless he push power button, how can we change it? Does anyone knows how to?
adjust lang settings instead 0f 5 sec. standby change nyo ng 15 mins.or 30 para hindi maoff ng madali,sofar wala ko problem sakin, study lang ng phone kulang sa n.u ehh, experimentohan nyo fon nyo para malaman nyo. . lahat ng android madaling mlobat, depende sa gamit nito…

hi i have o+ nabili ko last week pero secondhand sya,nagagandahan ako nito kaya binili ko sa coworker ko,,kaso nong after 3 days npansin ko ang hirap pindotin ng lttter o grrrr nakainis tapos ang bilis malowbat all night co echarge tapos pag gamitin ko dlang abot isang araw lowbat na agad pang chat ko lang gamit tong phone nato…..meron bang may alam jan pano mg charege ng masbilis,,,nkakainis kasi sandali lang gamiting tas mabilis mag lowbat ,,,,,,hahay naloko ako ng katrabaho ko bwesit
madaming apps ang nag-o-autorun jan. i format or reset mo nalang tapos install ka ng “battery saver” and cleaning tool ng mga running apps. cgurado ok na yan after reset.
