If you’re reading this right now, and you don’t have a Nintendo Switch, I bet that you’re having a nigh-impossible time finding one in the malls. Well, there seems to be a good reason for that. Sales for the portable-home console hybrid surpassed the first two-day sales for any system in Nintendo history. But what does this really mean?
The news comes from the New York Times’ Nick Wingfield. In turn, he received this information straight from the Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime. To pile even more good news on top of that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild became the best-selling launch title in company history. Records-wise, it surpassed Super Mario 64 for the old Nintendo 64.
Of course, if we’re being realistic, I don’t think it’s the right time to be celebrating across the streets. Nobody knows at this point if it can be nearly as successful as the last major Nintendo success, the Wii. It’s only been a few days, after all. On a better note, however, this news becomes even more impressive considering consoles typically launch in November, not in early March.
However, news like this spells optimism for the company and its loyal fanbase. Even more, this trend might continue if more critically-acclaimed, fun games come out for the Nintendo Switch. With games like Super Mario Odyssey and a new Fire Emblem in the pipeline, though, things look great.
