One of ourĀ Back to the Future dreams is now a reality as Nike introduces the Nike Adapt BB basketball shoes. This new Nike footwear features Nike Adapt, a platform that provides custom fit pairs through its power-lacing system paired with an app with a regularly updated firmware.
The Adapt BB comes equipped with a custom motor and gear train that senses the tension needed by the foot. It then adjusts accordingly to keep the foot snug at all times. The underfoot lacing can pull 32lbs of force (almost the same force to that of a standard parachute) to secure the foot even as the user moves.
This revolutionary sneakers also boasts the FitAdapt tech. By manual touch or through the Nike Adapt app on their smartphone, the wearer can input different fit settings according to their movement or activity. They can loosen the shoe when at rest to increase blood flow, and tighten it again when they need to move. Nike hints that future features will allow the wearer to further custom fit the tightness of the shoe lacing, depending on the intensity of their activity.
Boston Celtics small forward Jayson Tatum were among the first ones to wear and try out the Adapt BB shoes. He went to Nike World Headquarters in oregon for a run of workouts and pickup games, putting the shoe through an exhaustive trialing period.
