If you thought Samsung was content with being the world’s largest chipset manufacturer, think again. This time, they might even take the crown for fastest modem in the market.
Samsung recently unveiled the Samsung 6CA (carrier aggregation) modem that allows download speeds as high as 1.2 Gbps. Basically, at that max speed, you can download an HD movie in 10 seconds. In theory, this downloads faster than the 1 Gbps 5CA modem which came with its Exynos 8895 chips. Of course, we have to keep in mind that while the modem seems fast, it remains at LTE Advanced. This is different from the 5G network that exists in the US, Europe, and other countries.
To achieve this astounding accomplishment, Samsung teamed up with Anritsu, a Japanese company focused on cellphone network speeds. Through their combined effort, the new 6CA system combines six frequencies which result in highly stable data transfers.
But try not to celebrate just yet. In reality, North American users or more appropriately, local Filipino users might not even get half of the theoretical speed. The reason for this lies in the fact that many carriers only aggregate three LTE channels at best, in combination with network congestion.
The Samsung 6CA chip will begin production around Q4 2017, which means we might see it in the future Samsung Galaxy S9.
