Social media giant Facebook has seen opportunity to dig deeper profit as it decided to include autoplay video ads to its chat app Messenger.
The rollout of the video advertisements has already began, but it may take a while for all users to witness them.
As the leading social media network, Facebook earlier said it needed more space to place ads. Despite this, Stefanos Loukakos, who manages Messenger’s ad business, assured the company will continue to monitor user behavior. This will dictate if Facebook will keep the autoplay videos or remove it from the messaging app’s system.
“Top priority for us is user experience”, he told Recode. Loukakos was not also confident if the format would work.
“However, signs until now, when we tested basic ads, didn’t show any changes with how people used the platform or how many messages they send. Video might be a bit different, but we don’t believe so,” he added.
In the Philippines, Facebook has currently over 66 million active users every month.
