Or, as another one of their taglines claim: Vanilla, The sweetest forum on the web:
With Vanilla we wanted to break the mold created and followed by just about every other forum on the web. We sat down and thought about what we liked, and more importantly, what we didn’t like about web forums. We wanted emphasis on the discussions rather than the statistics. We wanted to stop using MSN or AIM to send secret messages to other forum members; We wanted to be able to save the common searches. Basically, we wanted the thing to work for us instead of against us. Most importantly we wanted it to be free and we wanted it to run on just about every web server out there. So, Vanilla is a PHP / MySQL solution that is 100% open-source. You can take it and alter it and use it free of charge.
Stumbled on this very promising PHP forum script while looking through the Binary Bonsai forums over at Flickr (I still find it a bit odd most WordPress plugins and themes forums (Squible, Extended Live Archives, etc.) are conducted over at Flickr). Based on the juicy screenshots alone, its a very welcome breather from every other BB scripts out there. Though, it does look like this will primarily be part of the geek territory.

One great thing though, it’s a css/web-standards based forum app.
i download myself a copy and took it for a spin, and i found out that it has a built in ajax for its “whisper” feature..
i must say its very promising, because its like googling the forum for something that is only of interest to you, saving the topics and comeback a few weeks after and find it where you left it..
really cool..
