iPhone XR and XS Gestures: A How-To Guide

Everybody knows that Apple’s XR and XS are some of the best smartphones in the market this year. But if you want to upgrade your iPhone, you’re gonna have to say goodbye to your precious Home Button, because both new models don’t have one. The iPhone XR and XS users will have to rely on gestures to navigate through their smartphones. If you recently upgraded to either of these devices, here are some tips and tricks on how you can function without your home button.

Go Back to Home Screen

Simply touch and flick up on the Gesture Area from the bottom of your screen.

Wake Up Your iPhone

By default, you can tap on your screen or lift up your iPhone to wake it up. To enable/disable these features:

Tap to Wake Up

  1. Go to your iPhone’s Settings.
  2. Select General > Accessibility.
  3. Enable/Disable Tap to Wake Slider.

Lift Up to Wake Up

  1. Go to your iPhone’s Settings.
  2. Choose Display & Brightness.
  3. Enable/Disable Raise to Wake Slider.

Force Restart your iPhone XR/XS

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down Button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button.

Go to Control Center

  1. Swipe down to open the Notifications Window.
  2. Swipe down from the right side to open the Control Center.

Access the App Switcher

  1. Swipe up on the Gesture Area from the bottom of your screen and hold about an inch up.
  2. When the active apps appear, swipe to and tap on the app that you want to switch to.

Switch Between Apps

  1. When an app is open, swipe to right on the Gesture Area at the bottom of your screen to go back to the previous open app.
  2. Swipe to left to to return to the next open app.

Force Quit Apps

  1. Open the App Switcher by swiping up and holding on the Gesture Area from the bottom of your screen.
  2. When the active apps appear, swipe to the app that you want, then swipe up to close it.

Use Search

  1. Swipe down from the middle of the Home screen.
  2. Tap the Search field, then enter what your are searching for (Search will be updated in real time).
  3. To see more results, tap Show More or search directly in an app by tapping Search in App.
  4. Tap the desired search result.

Enable the Virtual Home Button

  1. Go to your iPhone’s Settings.
  2. Choose General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch.
  3. Toggle the button On.

Don’t let the lack of Home Button prevent you from trying out the iPhone XR and XS. The iPhone XR is available from PHP 50,900.00, while the iPhone XS is priced at PHP 67,990.00 in the Philippines.
