UPDATE: The official jailbreak has been released! Go here for details.
I’ve been monitoring this the past few days and I know that the jailbreak for iPad 2 is getting close. However, a private beta tester leaked a video on the web-based jailbreak, similar to Jailbreakme which is the easiest type of jailbreak out there.
This jailbreak uses the iOS PDF exploit by reading a PDF file which will force your iPad to run Cydia. It’s not the official release by Comex but nothing is stopping you from trying it out and there are already reports of people who tried it and having their iPad jailbroken.
Here are the restrictions though. It only works on iOS 4.3.0, not 4.3.1 nor 4.3.3. The link to the iOS 4.3.3 version was taken down and there’s a big chance that the link for iOS 4.3 will be removed as well. There are also some people who can’t get it to work on the 3G version, although WiFi version works perfectly.
So here’s how to do it.
1. On your iPad 2, launch your browser and navigate to http://ipad2jailbreakpdf.weebly.com/.
2. Click the Download link and your Safari will crash. That’s normal.
3. You will then see Cydia installing itself. When it disappears, it’s time to reboot.
4. Reboot your iPad and it should be jailbroken once it get backs in.
Or watch this video:
Sadly, my iPad 2 came with iOS 4.3.1 so I’m still in waiting mode for the universal jailbreak. If you tried it and you can’t get it to work, your Safari will keep on crashing. Just go in Settings > Safari and clear everything and your iPad should be fine.
For iOS 4.3 iPad 2 WiFi users, your long wait is over.
