The latest OpenSignal report concluded Manila’s Internet speeds to be at par with its South East Asian neighbors. Taking into account Smart Communication’s performance in the last Ooklaa report as being the fastest fixed and mobile network in the Philippines for 2018, the recent analysis looks just as promising.
In a new data gathered from February 1 to May 2, 2019 by OpenSignal, Manila posted a Download Speed Experience score of 11.2 Mbps. This also makes it subsequent to Ho Chi Minh (14.7 Mbps) and Kuala Lumpur (11.8 Mbps) but ahead of Bangkok (9.8 Mbps), Jakarta (8.2 Mbps), and Phnom Penh (6.3 Mbps).
Manila also posted a “fair” mobile video experience rate of 45 alongside Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh, Bangkok, and Jakarta who also revel in the same category.
While the report didn’t include data traffic performance per operator, OpenSignal previously hailed those who topped the country in their Mobile Network Experience Report. In it, Smart posted a Download Speed Experience score of 15.2 Mbps and a “good” video experience rate of 55.4; these finding were released in March and based on a crowd-sourced data accumulated from November 1, 2018 to January 29, 2019.
These data puts Smart well ahead of the competition in the Philippines and has similar performance levels to neighboring cities like Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh when it comes to Download Speed and Video Experience. Smart also led in four metrics—download and upload speed experience, as well as video experience and latency experience.
