Just when you think there’s no more exciting things to be done with netbooks, Intel announced their dual-core Intel Atom N550 which is based on their PineTrail platform. Expect a dozen new netbooks from different manufacturers that will sport this new processor.
Dual-core Atom processors were previously used in nettops (Atom D330) so why not put it in netbooks as well right? Actually, they did with the Asus Eeepc 1201N but this time, they made a mobile version of the processor which is more power-efficient than the nettop variant.
Intel claims that with the dual-core Intel Atom processor N550 (1.5GHz), consumers can enjoy Internet with a more responsive experience in the same compact form factor, DDR3 memory support and similar great battery life as the single-core Intel Atom processor N450.
So if you’re shopping for a netbook today, better look out for those having Intel Atom N550 processors. Multithread processing will do wonders for the compact netbook. One of these new netbooks is the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3s which will arrive next month.
