Honor Magic 2 is a phone that is allegedly so smart, it can read your own mind. The AI-powered phone features a manual slide-out triple lens selfie camera, the Kirin 980 SoC, and a smart virtual assistant called YOYO.
Design and Construction
The Magic 2 is rumored to have a 100% screen to body ratio. Much like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Honor opted for a manual slider for the selfie camera called the “Magic Slide” which houses a triple-lens front facing camera. Being a near bezel-less smartphone, a nifty optical in-display fingerprint reader is included. Once again, there is no headphone jack for this phone, users must either use a Bluetooth headset or the included dongle. The phone weighs around 206 grams and has a thickness of 8.3mm.
Display and Multimedia
The Magic 2 boasts a 6.39-inch full-view AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1080×2340. The face unlock feature combined with the front facing triple camera enables high-level 3D facial recognition.
Camera
There are six camera lenses in total on the Honor Magic 2. The front camera is made up of a 16MP main sensor, then another pair of 2MP sensors, while the rear camera has a 16MP RGB sensor, a 16MP wide-angle lens, and a 24MP monochrome lens. The rear camera technology uses AI for scene recognition and artificial image stabilization or AIS, the same technology on Huawei phone like the P20 Pro. The front camera is optimized for portrait shots with included portrait lighting effects.
Performance and Battery
The battery capacity of 3,500mAh with support for Honor’s 40w Magic Charge, this enables the phone to reach 50% with just 15 minutes of charging. It will be shipped out with Android 9.0 with an octa-core CPU, so you can expect a smooth experience with the Kirin 980: the successor of the Kirin 970 which is found in the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. You may choose from 6GB or 8GB of RAM with storage up to 128GB or 256GB respectively.
This phone is a great alternative to the Mate 20 Pro. The powerful specs packed in the phone will surely attract many smartphone photography lovers. The Honor Magic 2 is currently on sale in China and is available in Black, Red or Blue with prices starting at USD 545 (PHP 28,544) for 6GB RAM/128GB ROM, 8GB RAM/256 ROM at USD 690 (PHP 36,139)and USD 617 (PHP 32,316) for 8GB RAM/ 128GB ROM.
