Gigabyte announces U2442V Ultrabook for the performance freaks

Admit it, most Ultrabooks today looks really sleek with its thin form factor for optimum mobility but at the expense of performance and functionality. Not to go with the norm, Gigabyte went with a fully-featured, high performance, discrete graphics-packing Ultrabook of their own, the Gigabyte U2442V.

This 14-inch Ultrbaook may not be the thinnest around but it still looks good on its own with a brushed metal lid and measuring only 18.5mm thick with a weight of just 1.66 kg. It comes with a full set of ports including LAN, HDMI, and VGA, an SD card reader plus four USB ports (2x 3.0)! You’ll also happy to learn that the U2442V comes with a backlit keyboard.

It also has a 1600 x 900 LED display which is not Full HD but still above average for an ordinary notebook its size. Powering the U2442V is a 3rd generation Intel Core i5-3210M processor. Note that it’s a full-powered mobile processor unlike the ultra-low power chips on most Ultrabooks. To keep you satisfied with your Diablo 3 sessions, you’ll also get an NVIDIA GeForce GT640M graphics here instead of the typical integrated Intel HD graphics. Rounding off the specs list you’ll see an 8GB DDR3 RAM and a hybrid storage consisting of 128GB SSD and 750GB HDD drive. This is indeed one fast and powerful Ultrabook.

You might be asking how hot this baby gets with all that power crammed into its thin frame. To keep things running cool, it has a dual air vent design on the rear that can keep the wattage of both the CPU and GPU in check.

With all that talks of features and specs, you just want to know how much this will cost you. It’s Php55,590, which already falls at the price range of Ultrabooks of established brands, but hey you can’t discount the completeness and power the Gigabyte U2442V will give you. There’s also a Core i7-3517U model version that retails for Php63,590. This Ultrabook will be available by the end of the month.
