A refurbished version of the Galaxy Note 7 will be available in the market starting July 7. Starting today, Samsung is planning to sell 400, 000 units of the Galaxy Note 7 in the Korean market as the Galaxy Note Fan Edition.
The Fan Edition has a slimmer 3200mAh battery which is a total improvement from last year’s disaster. The Korean company claims that the Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition batteries underwent its new 8-point battery safety check. The safety check reassures us that the batteries will not overheat anymore.
The Decision to Make a Fan Edition
Last year, the Galaxy Note 7 faced major criticism because of the handset’s exploding batteries. This catastrophe pushed Samsung to officially recall every Note 7 distributed in the market. By the end of October last year, an estimate of 1 million of the 2.5 million manufactured Note 7 was officially recalled.
Furthermore, according to reports, the Fan Edition is made from unopened and unused Note 7 parts. Samsung explained that the move to make a Galaxy Note Fan Edition is to minimize ‘environmental impact’. Namely, the company refers directly to the disposing of the spare parts of 3.5 million devices.
There are noticeable changes in the design of the new Note 7. The Fan Edition has no branding on its upper bezel but sports a Galaxy Note Fan Edition logo at the back. However, the Fan Edition will have an IP68 rating similar to the original Note 7. Also, the new version still has the S Pen. Moreover, the new Note 7 is available in Samsung’s home market. For those interested, the color variants include Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium, and Black Onyx.
As per writing, there are still no official reports whether the Galaxy Note Fan Edition will be sold in other territories. Reports say that the retail price for the Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition would be $611 or approximately Php 30, 800 in our country.
