Facebook, together with TNT, the country’s largest prepaid brand under Smart Communications, are working together to host another developer competition, the Second Mobile Web Developer Challenge. For the second time, participants must develop innovative solutions related to either health, disaster preparedness and relief, and education through technology. This stemmed from Smart’s launch of the Free Basics app (the former Internet.org) in the Philippines through TNT, making it thie first time this service became available in the Southeast Asian region. This was the same year TNT held the first Mobile Web Developer Challenge.
The best projects from the competition will be given a chance to return on pitch day, September 9, 2016, to demo their finished mobile site before a panel of judges. From these returning projects, a winner will be chosen that will be added to the bookmarked sites of FreeBasics.com. This bookmarked site will then be promoted in schools to drive awareness.
On top of this, the winning team will get a cash prize, a trip to the Singaporean Facebook office, and an FbStart package with benefits valued up to USD 80,000 (around Php 3,766,200).
